I first heard the term “Sunday Scaries” early on in my career when I was working in Public Accounting. When people hear “CPA” (Certified Public Accountant), they instantly think of taxes and workaholics. I align more with workaholic than taxes, but most people understand lots of hours and stress.
In the midst of busy season when you’re grinding out 50, 60, 70+ hour work weeks, you lose sight of a lot of things. Your weekdays are long and weekends short. You try to maximize every minute you get away from work to try and enjoy as much of your life as possible.
Most times, Sunday night comes at you fast (really fast). It can hit you like a ton of bricks. Monday morning looms and so does another 50+ hour work week.
You lay your head down to sleep and every thought imaginable hits you. It can completely derail any sleep you thought you’d get. All of a sudden, you’re overridden by stress and anxiety (sometimes quite literally out of nowhere). It can be very hard to manage, regardless if it’s your first experience or your 1,000th.
This blog will primarily be about the many thoughts I’ve encountered during my sleep (less) nights. I also want to share some ways I’ve tried to minimize the stress and anxiety at bedtime
I look forward to hearing from you as you share your thoughts or experiences with the Sunday Scaries as I share mine.
If you’ve read through this and thought, what in the world are “Sunday Scaries”? I have you covered here (So what are “Sunday Scaries”).
